Google unveils custom search, kills Lively

Google has unveiled a new tool which allows users to customize search results and announced it is ending its virtual world experiment, Lively

Google, in a posting on its official blog on Thursday, said a new feature known as SearchWiki allows users to personalize search results by editing them according to their own preferences.

SearchWiki lets users who have a Google Account rearrange their search results, re-ranking websites by moving them up or down in the results page.
Useless search results can be deleted and others can be added.
"With just a single click you can move the results you like to the top or add a new site," Google said. "You can also write notes attached to a particular site and remove results that you don't feel belong."

waiting "Morro"

Microsoft has announced plans to offer free anti-virus software to PC users starting next year.
The Redmond, Washington-based software giant said the software, code-named "Morro," will "provide comprehensive protection from malware including viruses, spyware, rootkits and trojans."
In a statement on Tuesday, Microsoft said Morro would be focused on "core anti-malware protection" and would be available in the second half of 2009

Microsoft said "Morro" will be available as a download and offer malware protection for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems

A number of companies are in the business of selling software security programs and industry analysts said Microsoft's move to provide free security software could pose a challenge to such firms as McAfee and Symantec.

Iran and internet !!!!

Iran has blocked access to more than five million Internet sites, whose content is mostly perceived as immoral and anti-social, a judiciary official was quoted as saying on Wednesday.

"The enemies seek to assault our religious identity by exploiting the Internet," Abdolsamad Khoram Abadi, an advisor to Iran's prosecutor general, was quoted by Kargozaran newspaper as saying.

The ban has also targeted such popular social networking sites as Facebook and YouTube, as well as news sites......

Differences between Intel® Processors

Many of us are a little confused about types of processors (especially me before i wrote this post :-S ) .Lets start .....

First we have 3 families of Intel® Processors :

  • Intel® Core Processors Family
  • Intel® Pentium Processor Family
  • Intel® Celeron Processor Family

lets begin with Intel® Core Processors Family :

  • Intel® Multi-Core Technology
Multi-core processors are single chips that contain two or more distinct processors or execution cores in the same integrated circuit. While independent, their construction makes for interdependent task-sharing.
  • Intel® Core 2 Duo Processors
Intel Core 2 Duo processors incorporate two processor execution cores in a single processor package that delivers—with appropriate software—a fully parallel execution of multiple software threads. This allows each core to run at a lower frequency, dividing the power normally given to a single core.

  • Intel® Quad-Core Processors

Intel® Quad-Core Technology Quad-core technology is a single processor that includes four processor cores. Think of them as four simultaneously hard working brains that can work separately or together on one large task, which produces faster, more efficient results.

  • Intel® Core 2 Extreme processor

The Intel Core 2 Extreme mobile processor has four cores processing multiple threads and multiple tasks at blistering speeds for an incredible"like you're there" experience in advanced artificial intelligence (AI), particle systems, dynamic physics, and texture generation. As your ultimate engine for creating rich, HD videos with up to 50 percent faster performance when encoding and editing video, these processors enable you to perform like a multiple armed monster.

Achieving clock speeds of up to 2.53GHz, along with an astounding 12 MB of shared L2 cache and a 1066 MHz Front Side Bus (FSB), the Intel Core 2 Extreme mobile processor is your ultimate engine for hi-def multimedia while powering the latest generation of hardcore games.

Second Family is Intel® Pentium Family :

  • Intel® Pentium Dual-Core Processor

Pentium Dual-Core Processor entails silicon design engineers placing two Intel Pentium® "execution cores," or computational engines, within a single processor. This dual-core processor plugs directly into a single processor socket, but the operating system perceives each of its execution cores as a discrete logical processor, with all the associated execution resources. note this amazing feature you can set a program to work with a specific core by setting Affinity option in Windows Task Manager to select which cores (or just one core) to work with the program. The Set Affinity option is available when you right click on a process in the Processes tab in Task Manager.

Third is Intel® Celeron Processor Family

  • Intel® Celeron Processor

it is a single-Core Processing with 800 MHz FSB , Systems based on the Celeron processor are ideal for day-to-day computing, whether in the home, classroom, or office. The Execute Disable Bit¹, a built-in security feature, helps protect your programs and files from viruses, worms, and other malicious attacks. The Celeron processor also includes Intel® 64² architecture, so you can access larger amounts of memory when used with appropriate 64-bit supporting hardware and software. A faster Front Side Bus accelerates access between the processor core and your data for an enhanced computing experience.
  • Intel® Celeron Dual-Core Processor

Security and virus protection often means running more than one application at a time, and the Celeron dual-core processor has the power to run them simultaneously. Based on energy-efficient microarchitecture, the Celeron dual-core processor delivers superior energy-efficient dual-core performance.

Many of us now will say " What's the difference between Intel® Celeron Dual-Core Processor and Intel® Pentium Dual-Core Processor ? I'm still confused :( ......"

Ans : The difference between them is the amount of L2 memory cache that was added.

In other words, the Celeron is hobbled with just 512KB, the Pentium has 1MB caches.

New consumer ad with Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld

On Sept. 4, Microsoft Corp. launched the largest consumer marketing campaign in the history of the company, focused on the broad potential of Windows across PCs, the Web and mobile devices. The campaign is part of a larger effort to connect people with the power and potential that Windows brings to everyday life.

The series continues with a second two-part ad. Very soon, the campaign will turn toward communicating specifically about the Windows brand and the products that carry the Windows flag. Stay tuned and watch this 1st ad with Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld ... enjoy :)

What's Web 2

Many of us asks what's the meaning of Web 2.0 ? what are the differences between Web 2.0 and Web 1.0 ?
OK...you may find your answer here :

Web 1.0 is considered as a static thing like a journal you can read it but you cant edit it until they are changed by the publisher .'
By Web 2.0 you can edit ,change and publish the content of the site .
Famous example of Web 2.0 applications are facebook, wikipedia, flickr, youtube,ansewrs.com

The image above compares Web 2.0 with Web 1.0 and explains how things have changed since the web culture has revolutionized. Webmaster and user interaction no longer depends on direct means of communication rather a whole new system of social interaction has evolved that includes really simple syndication (RSS feeds) and also the use of social networking sites.

finally we can list some diffrences between Web 2.0 and Web 1.0 :

  • Web 1.0 was about personal websites, Web 2.0 is about blogging
  • Web 1.0 was about screen scraping, Web 2.0 is about web services
  • Web 1.0 was about portals,Web 2.0 is about RSS
  • Web 1.0 was about client-server, Web 2.0 is about peer to peer
  • Web 1.0 was about publishing , Web 2.0 is about sharing
