Differences between Intel® Processors

Many of us are a little confused about types of processors (especially me before i wrote this post :-S ) .Lets start .....

First we have 3 families of Intel® Processors :

  • Intel® Core Processors Family
  • Intel® Pentium Processor Family
  • Intel® Celeron Processor Family

lets begin with Intel® Core Processors Family :

  • Intel® Multi-Core Technology
Multi-core processors are single chips that contain two or more distinct processors or execution cores in the same integrated circuit. While independent, their construction makes for interdependent task-sharing.
  • Intel® Core 2 Duo Processors
Intel Core 2 Duo processors incorporate two processor execution cores in a single processor package that delivers—with appropriate software—a fully parallel execution of multiple software threads. This allows each core to run at a lower frequency, dividing the power normally given to a single core.

  • Intel® Quad-Core Processors

Intel® Quad-Core Technology Quad-core technology is a single processor that includes four processor cores. Think of them as four simultaneously hard working brains that can work separately or together on one large task, which produces faster, more efficient results.

  • Intel® Core 2 Extreme processor

The Intel Core 2 Extreme mobile processor has four cores processing multiple threads and multiple tasks at blistering speeds for an incredible"like you're there" experience in advanced artificial intelligence (AI), particle systems, dynamic physics, and texture generation. As your ultimate engine for creating rich, HD videos with up to 50 percent faster performance when encoding and editing video, these processors enable you to perform like a multiple armed monster.

Achieving clock speeds of up to 2.53GHz, along with an astounding 12 MB of shared L2 cache and a 1066 MHz Front Side Bus (FSB), the Intel Core 2 Extreme mobile processor is your ultimate engine for hi-def multimedia while powering the latest generation of hardcore games.

Second Family is Intel® Pentium Family :

  • Intel® Pentium Dual-Core Processor

Pentium Dual-Core Processor entails silicon design engineers placing two Intel Pentium® "execution cores," or computational engines, within a single processor. This dual-core processor plugs directly into a single processor socket, but the operating system perceives each of its execution cores as a discrete logical processor, with all the associated execution resources. note this amazing feature you can set a program to work with a specific core by setting Affinity option in Windows Task Manager to select which cores (or just one core) to work with the program. The Set Affinity option is available when you right click on a process in the Processes tab in Task Manager.

Third is Intel® Celeron Processor Family

  • Intel® Celeron Processor

it is a single-Core Processing with 800 MHz FSB , Systems based on the Celeron processor are ideal for day-to-day computing, whether in the home, classroom, or office. The Execute Disable Bit¹, a built-in security feature, helps protect your programs and files from viruses, worms, and other malicious attacks. The Celeron processor also includes Intel® 64² architecture, so you can access larger amounts of memory when used with appropriate 64-bit supporting hardware and software. A faster Front Side Bus accelerates access between the processor core and your data for an enhanced computing experience.
  • Intel® Celeron Dual-Core Processor

Security and virus protection often means running more than one application at a time, and the Celeron dual-core processor has the power to run them simultaneously. Based on energy-efficient microarchitecture, the Celeron dual-core processor delivers superior energy-efficient dual-core performance.

Many of us now will say " What's the difference between Intel® Celeron Dual-Core Processor and Intel® Pentium Dual-Core Processor ? I'm still confused :( ......"

Ans : The difference between them is the amount of L2 memory cache that was added.

In other words, the Celeron is hobbled with just 512KB, the Pentium has 1MB caches.

New consumer ad with Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld

On Sept. 4, Microsoft Corp. launched the largest consumer marketing campaign in the history of the company, focused on the broad potential of Windows across PCs, the Web and mobile devices. The campaign is part of a larger effort to connect people with the power and potential that Windows brings to everyday life.

The series continues with a second two-part ad. Very soon, the campaign will turn toward communicating specifically about the Windows brand and the products that carry the Windows flag. Stay tuned and watch this 1st ad with Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld ... enjoy :)
